BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GOLDEN ROOS

The "Golden Roos" was founded in 1974 following the Club's purchase of the Petchey Street RSL premises. The founding members of the Golden Roos were Ted Turner, Bill Fahey, Tom Fergusson, Bill Bowtell and George Ward. Functions were held at the CDFC Social Club until such time as this premises was sold. The Golden Roos then met at the Shoreline Hotel for a period of time, then Lindisfarne RSL/Motor Yacht Club with functions eventually moving to the current location back at the Shoreline Hotel in 2012.

As Chairman of the inaugural Golden Roos committee, George Ward was responsible for organising functions and finances. Jack Hunt took over these responsibilities for a period of time before the baton was finally passed in 2006 to the present day Chairman, Ian Oakes.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN ROOS

With a common interest of friendship & support for the wellbeing of Clarence Football Club, anyone can become involved in the Golden Roos.  Members include some past players, board members, volunteers, supporters, relatives, friends & occasionally people from other clubs that just enjoy our company!

The Golden Roos meet for lunch on the first Friday of each month at the Shoreline Hotel, Howrah.  Come and join us for a great meal ($20 main course [approx] or extra $4 for sweets, tea or coffee not included) and listen to a special guest deliver a presentation on a particular aspect of the Clarence Football Club.

A number of items are generously donated for a raffle, with these monies funding the purchase of Junior football trophies at the end of the season.
